Functional Diagram
General Descrition
The HMC5384(are AnalPhase Shift-
ers which are controd via an analog control
voltage m 0 to +5V. he HMC538LP4(E)pro-
vides continously variable phase shift of 0 to
800 deeat 6 GHz, and 0 to 450 degrees at
16 GHz, constent insertion loss versus phase
shift. The phshift is monotonic with respect to
control voltage. The control port has a modulation
ndwidtof 50 MHz. The low insertion loss and
cot size enable this part to be used in a wide
range of applications, including the phase adjustment
of clocks in fiber optic systems and test equipment.
THe HMC538LP4(E) is housed in leadless QFN sur-
face mount packages and are available in both stan-
dard and RoHS compliant versions.

Evaluation PCB
10
List of MEvaluation PCB 108812 [1]
The circuit board used in the final application should
use RF circuit design techniques. Signal lines
should have 50 ohm impedance while the package
ground leads and exposed paddle should be con-
nected directly to the ground plane similar to that
shown. A sufficient number of via holes should be
used to connect the top and bottom ground planes.
The evaluation board should be mounted to an
appropriate heat sink. The evaluation circuit board
shown is available from Hittite upon request.
