SLM Series Slot Sensors  
Overview  
The SLM Series Slot Sensor (someꢀmes called a “fork sensor”) comprises an opposed-mode emiꢂer and its receiver inside a single  
convenient housing.  
Opposed-mode sensing is very reliable, and the single, self-contained housing provides easy installaꢀon, with no sensor alignment  
required. In addiꢀon, molded-in arrows on the housing show at a glance the posiꢀon of the beam, simplifying installaꢀon placement.  
Applicaꢀons include counꢀng, gear tooth detecꢀon, edge detecꢀon, part sensing on conveyor rails and belts, posiꢀon and orientaꢀon  
veriꢃcaꢀon, dimension veriꢃcaꢀon, tool break monitoring, and level monitoring.

Configuring the Sensor  
For the best results, place the objects to be detected midway between the emiꢂer and receiver.  
Adjusꢀng the Sensiꢀvity  
Adjust the sensor’s sensiꢀvity by turning the 270-degree-turn Sensiꢀvity potenꢀometer with a small flat-blade screwdriver.  
Apply power to the sensor and turn the potenꢀometer all the way clockwise (maximum gain). If the object to be sensed does not block  
the beam at the maximum gain, turn the gain down a liꢂle at a ꢀme, tesꢀng with the object, unꢀl the object can be sensed reliably.  
If adjusꢀng the sensiꢀvity with the potenꢀometer does not provide reliable object detecꢀon, invesꢀgate alternaꢀve sensing methods.  
Selecꢀng Light or Dark Operate  
Select dark operate (D.O.) or light operate (L.O.) by turning the DO/LO selector switch to the desired seꢄng using a small flat-blade  
screwdriver.  
If dark operate is selected, the output conducts when the receiver element does not see the emiꢂed light (object is present). If light  
operate is selected, the output conducts when the receiver element sees the emiꢂed light (object is absent).
