Fusion-MPT architecture encompasses
LSI Logic’s Fusion-MPT firmware
architecture, LSI Logic’s SCSI hardware
architecture, LSI Logic’s Fibre Channel
hardware architecture, and the operating
system level drivers that support these
architectures. Fusion-MPT architecture
has the unique feature of having a
single device driver that supports both
Fibre Channel and SCSI.
Unrivaled I/O performance
– Fusion-MPT architecture
offloads system processor
performance available today while
shortening time to market and saving
integration and certification time.
®
– Truly scalable architecture
Based on industry standard ARM
processor technology, LSI Logic’s
Fusion-MPT technology supports
Ultra320 SCSI and Fibre Channel,
and is designed to be extensible to
other physical interfaces as they
emerge. Fusion-MPT architecture, the
culmination of several generations of
intelligent interface controllers, is
available today and is shipping on
LSI Logic’s LSIFC909 Fibre Channel
controller, and is featured in the LSI
Logic LSIFC929 2 Gbaud Fibre
Channel and LSI53C1020 and

transactions
Designed with developers in mind,
Fusion-MPT architecture is an open
architecture with tools and support.
OEMs and system developers can
easily incorporate LSI Logic SCSI and
Fibre Channel into their systems.
Faster time to market

Fusion-MPT architecture encapsulates
all information necessary for I/O
controllers to autonomously complete
an I/O, which reduces the time the
system processor spends on each I/O
transaction. This also results in a higher
host processor efficiency. For reference,
host processor efficiency is a measure-
ment of the input/output operations
per second divided by the percentage
of host processor time committed to an
I/O operation.
which increase throughput only 30%
when additional adapters are added.
Embedded on the I/O controller,
Integrated Mirroring provides simulta-
neous physical mirroring of the boot
drive to a second drive allowing for
fault tolerant, high availability data. In
the case of hard drive failure, the hot
swap capability allows for ease of
restoring the system by simply swapping
out drives. The system then automatically
remirrors the OS drive. Because of
the advanced intelligent architecture of
LSI Logic's Fusion-MPT I/O controllers,
the boot drive mirroring capability can
be implemented across any operating
system or embedded environment,
requiring no special drivers or com-
plex configuration utilities.
In summary, Fusion-MPT architecture
provides unparalleled performance,
host software binary compatibility
between LSI Logic’s Fibre Channel and
Ultra320 SCSI products, and significantly
reduced software development time.
This flexible, open, advanced architecture,
designed with the future in mind, meets
all implementation and development
needs to quickly get products to market.

In the Fibre Channel implementation
(LSIFC909 controller), Fusion-MPT
based I/O controllers have exhibited
an increased throughput, or scalability
factor of 1.9x, when adding a second
Fusion-MPT based I/O controller.
Discounting overhead for a second
controller this exhibits close to 100%
scalability or 90% more throughput
with a Fusion-MPT based controller as
opposed to competing I/O controllers,
processing power of LSI Logic's Fusion-
MPT architecture make advanced features
like Integrated mirroring possible.
Integrated Mirroring is a cost effective,
simple and reliable fault tolerant
solution for boot drive mirroring. It's
designed to fill the need for low cost
drive failure protection and recovery/
back-up in several applications.
