Precautions
1. General precautions
(1) Make sure to design the circuit in such a m anner that no current flows which exceed the rating specified
for each product.
A sustained excess current will cause degradation of the insulation orland connection due to overheat-
ing of the connector.
(2) The basic function of the connector is such that the connection is com pleted when the m ale and fem ale
connectors fit together.
If the connector is designed to prevent reverse-fitting, m ake sure that the m ale and fem ale connectors
are fitted together in the correct orientation.
Forcibly inserting the connector in the reverse orientation will result in dam age to the housing or pins,
thus m arring the function of the connector.
(3) If possible, apply force evenly across the connector when connecting and parting the m ale and fem ale
connectors.
Excessive prying of the connector for insertion/rem oval will result in dam age to the hous-ing or pins.
(4) The shape of m olded parts such as housing m ay change to prevent the warp etc. However, this does not
affect perform ance of the parts.
(5) The color of m olded parts such as the housing m ay differ from one m anufacturing lot to another; how-
ever, this does not affect perform ance.
2. Precautions in operating environm ent
(1) Atm osphere
Avoid, wherever possible, exposure to organic gases, dusty locations. and salty/hum id environm ents
which m ay dam age reliability of the connection.
If the connectors are likely to be exposed while not connected, m ake sure that they are placed indoors
where they can be protected from such environm ents as described above or the devices them selves have
such a structure m aking such a protection possible.
(2) Operating
When rem oving connectors with a lock function, be sure to unlock them . Forcibly rem ov-ing connectors
without unlocking them m ay cause the lock to be weakened or, in the worst case, cause dam age to the
lock.
(3) Handling
Avoid dropping or handling the products carelessly.
Never use connectors which have been dropped: an excessive im pact m ay have been applied to the
pins, causing them to bend or dam aging the connection reliability.
3. Precautions in m ounting (surface-packaging type excluded)
The precautions here apply to m ounting NEC connectors onto a printed-circuit board.
(1) Thickness of printed-circuit board
Press-in type: Use a board of recommended thickness.
The standard back-panel board thickness is 2.4 mm.
(2) Printed-circuit board dim ensions
If a part has specified connector m ounting hole dim ensions (pitch; hole diam eter) and a specified plat-
ing thickness for the printed board, m ake sure that it is m ounted in accordance with the drawing. (This is
very im portant especially for printed boards for m ounting press-fit connectors,)
(3) Inserting press-in type connectors into the back panel
q When inserting a connector, consider a suitable insertion force for the num ber of pins before determ ining
the specifications for the pressing m achine.
w press fitting requires dedicatedjig and tools (such as ones having a structure to press down the pin
stopper).
4. Storing connectors
1) Avoid storing connectors under high-tem perature and high-hum idity conditions.
2) Avoid dusty places.

under any patents, copyrights or other intellectual property rights of NEC/TOKIN Corporation or others.
While NEC/TOKIN Corporation has been m aking continuous effort to enhance the reliability of its electronic
com ponents, the possibility of defects cannot be elim inated entirely. To m inim ize risks of dam age or
injury to persons or property arising from a defect in an NEC/TOKIN electronic com ponent, custom ers
m ust incorporate sufficient safety m easures in its design, such as redundancy, fire-containm ent, and
anti-failure features. NEC/TOKIN devices are classified into the following three quality grades:
"Standard", "Special", and "Specific". The Specific quality grade applies only to devices developed based
on a custom er designated "quality assurance program " for a specific application. The recom m ended
applications of a device depend on its quality grade, as indicated below. Custom ers m ust check the
quality grade of each device before using it in a particular application.
Standard: Computers, office equipment, communications equipment, test and measurement equipment,
audio and visual equipm ent, hom e electronic appliances, m achine tools, personal electronic
equipment and industrial robots
Special: Transportation equipment (automobiles, trains, ships, etc.), traffic control systems, anti-disaster
system s, anti-crim e system s, safety equipm ent and m edical equipm ent (not specifically de-
signed for life support)
Specific: Aircrafts, aerospace equipm ent, subm ersible repeaters, nuclear reactor control system s, life
support systems or medical equipment for life support, etc.
The quality grade of NEC/TOKIN devices is "Standard" unless otherwise specified in NEC/TOKIN's Data Sheets
or Data Books. If customers intend to use NEC/TOKIN devices for applications other than those specified for
Standard quality grade, they should contact an NEC/TOKIN sales representative in advance.

owned subsidiaries.
(2) "NEC/TOKIN electronic component products" means any electronic component product developed or manu-
factured by or for NEC/TOKIN (as defined above).
