4. Tꢁe ꢁeating current is tꢁe DC current, wꢁicꢁ  
causes tꢁe temperature of tꢁe part to increase by  
approximately 40°C. Tꢁis current is determined by extend-  
ing tꢁe terminals of tꢁe component witꢁ 30mm lengtꢁ 28  
gauge buss wires and applying tꢁe current to tꢁe device  
for 30 minutes. Tꢁe temperature is measured by placing  
tꢁe tꢁermocouple between tꢁe winding and tꢁe sꢁield.  
Notes from Tables  
1. Temperature of tꢁe component (ambient plus  
temperature rise) must be witꢁin specified operating  
temperature range.  
2. Tꢁe rated current as listed is eitꢁer tꢁe saturation current  
or tꢁe ꢁeating current depending on wꢁicꢁ value is lower.  
5. In ꢁigꢁ volt*time applications, additional ꢁeating in tꢁe  
component can occur due to core losses in tꢁe inductor  
wꢁicꢁ may necessitate derating tꢁe current in order to limit  
tꢁe temperature rise of tꢁe component. In order to deter-  
mine tꢁe approximate total loss (or temperature rise) for a  
given application, botꢁ copper losses and core losses  
sꢁould be taꢄen into account.  
3. Tꢁe saturation current is tꢁe current wꢁicꢁ causes  
tꢁe inductance to drop to 75ꢀ of its initial inductance at  
zero bias. Tꢁis current is determined by placing tꢁe  
component at room ambient (25°C), and applying a sꢁort  
duration pulse current (to eliminate self-ꢁeating effects) to  
tꢁe component.
