NEW CDMA RF MODULE INTEGRATES PLL AND VCO FUNCTIONS

Demonstrating its leadership in RF technology, Raltron Electronics
Corp. has announced the availability of its new PLR B1-2140, a PLL-
VCO RF Module. Raltron’s PLR Module is specifically designed for
CDMA base station applications, where phase noise performance
and ultra fast phase locking capabilities allow greater design flexibil-
ity in meeting the overall system noise, frequency, PLL and phase
settling targets.
The PLR-B1-2140 is powered by a 5V supply and locks an internal low phase noise VCO to a
local 10MHz reference clock (typically an OCXO/TCXO based signal) using an Analog Devices,
ADF4113 PLL chipset. The PLL-VCO RF Module generates from the integrated VCO a 2140MHz
signal with a ±30MHz frequency tolerance at 200 kHz resolution steps. The low spurious of -
85dBc coupled with low phase noise of -122dBc/Hz at 100 KHz, provides the base station with a
low noise signal allowing overall system noise reduction. The PLR also features fast lock time of
2 milliseconds within 1 KHz and low power consumption. The PLR is packaged in a small 20
mm x 15 mm x 3.9 mm surface mount package.
Raltron’s integrated PLL and VCO is a high performance, highly integrated RF Module on a small
PCB. This design dexterity elevates VCO technology to a new level by combining the PLL, VCO
and loop filter functions into a single circuit that meets the rigorous RF specifications required by
CDMA base stations. The PLR Module can also be modified to meet the requirements of other
broadband applications.
The PLR Module offers a complete solution by combining PLL and VCO functions in a discreet
package, which enables design engineers to bring their product solutions to market faster and to
reduce essential material costs. The PLR Module is offered at $11 for 10K pieces. Delivery is
currently 8 weeks.
