1. INTRODUCTION
HM-Zd Receptacle Removal Tools 1583224-[ ] are designed to be used in conjunction with HM-Zd Chicklet
Removal Tools 1583248-1 or 1583249-1 to remove 2- or 4-pair HM-Zd receptacles with 4, 6, 10, 12, 15, or 20
chicklets from the printed circuit (pc) board. See Figure 1.

The receptacle removal tool is used to remove the housing from the pc board, then the chicklet removal tool is
used to remove individual chicklets from the pc board. Read and understand these instructions before using
any of the removal tools.
NOTE
Dimensions in this instruction sheet are in millimeters [with inches in brackets]. Figures are not drawn to scale.

2. DESCRIPTION
The removal tool features of a series of teeth that enter the square cavities on the top of the receptacle and
unlatch the latches securing the housing to the chicklets. Refer to Figure 2. When the chicklets are unlatched,
the housing can be removed from the pc board.
3. REMOVAL
1. Position the tool over the receptacle so the teeth are aligned with the square cavities. See Figure 2A.
2. Press down on the tool until it is flat on the housing. See Figure 2B.
3. Keeping the tool in place, grasp the housing at both ends, and lift the housing off of the chicklets.
NOTE
It may be necessary to “work” the housing off of the chicklets.

4. Discard the housing.
5. Refer to instruction sheet 408-8647 to remove the chicklets from the pc board.
4. MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION
4.1. Daily Maintenance
It is recommended that each operator be made aware of, and responsible for, the following steps of daily
maintenance:
1. Remove dust, moisture, and other contaminants with a clean, soft brush, or lint-free cloth. DO NOT
use objects that could damage the tool.
2. When the tool is not in use, store it in a clean, dry area.
4.2. Periodic Inspection
It is recommended that the tool be inspected using Figure 3 immediately upon its arrival to ensure that it has
not been damaged during shipment.
Regular inspections should be performed by quality control personnel. A record of scheduled inspections
should remain with the tool or be supplied to personnel responsible for the tool. The inspection frequency
should be based on the amount of use, working conditions, operator training and skill, and established
company standards.
