DIMENS IONS AND CONFIGURATIONS
The TEMEX coaxial resonators are available over a frequency range of 300 MHz to 6 GHz with four
preferred square cross section sizes, having side length of 2, 4, 6 and 12 m m .
Other square section dim ensions 3, 8 and 10 m m (S) inform ation can be obtained upon request.
Table 1 sum m arizes the choice of sizes and dielectric m aterials available.
The length of the com ponent (L) can be determ ined from the chosen frequency (F) and dielectric
constant (εr) as follows:

The coaxial resonator im pedance used in TEM m ode is a direct function of its dim ensions
and of the dielectric m aterial perm ittivity.
Table 2 indicates for each standard side length, and for each dielectric constant, the im pedance value,
independent of the resonator length

General characteristics
AP P LICATIONS
TEMEX coaxial ceram ic resonators provide the users with “High Q” higher parallel resonant
im pedance and better tem perature characteristics than inductor coils and associated lum ped constant
elem ents used in RF am plifiers and oscillators circuits.
These coaxial resonators are perfectly suitable for:
• DRO/VCO oscillators
• Cellular telephone
• UHF (LC) coupled am plifiers
• Global Positioning System s (GPS)
• Cordless telephone
•Tuned oscillators
• Narrow band filters
• Duplexers

APPLICATION NOTES
S OLDERING RECOMMENDATIONS
Before any soldering operation is im plem ented, the coaxial resonator m ust be preheated in order
to avoid a therm al shock and a subsequent m echanical stress liable to initiate failure m echanism .
TEMEX recom m ends a m inim um preheating tim e of 2 m inutes at 120° C with a m axim um heating rate
of 2° C / sec.
FREQUENCY ADJ USTMENT
When the frequency tuning adjustm ent is needed, two solutions can be adopted:
a)
Mechanical lapping of the ceram ic, or m echanical grinding of m etallization, depending where
m etallization will be grinded off.
b) Using a TEMEX air or sapphire dielectric tuning capacitor (“Air trim m er” or“Gigatrim ”):
in this case, the frequency will decrease when capacitance will increase.
This provides an additional advantage of m ounting / term inating resonator to the assem bly
by utilizing the leg configuration of the tuning capacitor.
QUALITY FACTOR Q
The Q factor of a coaxial resonator is essentially determ ined by the m etallization.
The dielectric m aterial, having low losses, does not have a direct effect on the “Q” (secondary
influence).
The curves show the range of “Q” factor versus resonator size and frequency range.
Curves show that Q m in. increases as frequency increases (proportionally to Fo).
